1. How do I select the correct current ratio for the HYX-85 current transformer?

Select the current ratio according to your circuit’s operating current and the connected meter’s secondary input rating. Avoid choosing an unnecessarily high primary rating, as this may affect measurement performance at low loads. Provide your operating current and meter specifications so we can confirm a suitable HYX-85 configuration.

2. How should I choose the accuracy class and rated burden?

The required accuracy class depends on your metering application. When selecting the rated burden, include both the connected instrument’s burden and the secondary cable burden. Please specify your required current ratio, accuracy class, cable length and cable cross-section so we can check the available configuration.

3. Will the HYX-85 fit my busbar or cable?

Fit must be checked against the HYX-85 dimensional drawing. For busbars, provide the width, thickness and number of bars passing through the window. For cables, provide the overall diameter, including insulation. Also check the available mounting space and terminal clearance before ordering.

4. Can the HYX-85 be connected to an energy meter or multifunction power meter?

Compatibility depends on the meter’s CT input specifications. The transformer’s secondary output must match the meter input, and the current ratio must be configured correctly in the meter. The frequency, accuracy requirements and total secondary burden should also be checked before installation.

5. Can the HYX-85 be installed without disconnecting the busbar or cable?

The HYX-85 is a closed-type current transformer, so the primary conductor must pass through its fixed window. Installation on an existing circuit generally requires isolation and temporary disconnection of the conductor. Follow the wiring diagram and polarity markings, and never leave a current-output CT secondary open while primary current is flowing.
