Ecuadorian power distribution companies, such as CNEL EP, are continuously promoting smart metering, loss reduction, and digital operations and maintenance.
To ensure that all receivables are accounted for, the first link in the metering chain—current transformers (CTs)—must be more accurate, more stable, and more user-friendly.
Our latest Low Voltage Extended Range Current Transformers, 600V Metering and authoritative type test reports help us “accurately measure every kilowatt-hour . ” HEYI’s RECT extended range Current Transformer close the value loop in Ecuadorian power distribution projects .
Combining “wide range + high precision + good operation and maintenance” in one CT
Wider metering curve:
RECT extended range Current Transformer specifications maintain nominal accuracy and load levels from 1% to 150% In – no distortion at low loads and no dropouts at peak loads.
This makes it particularly suitable for 60 Hz scenarios where residential and commercial loads experience large day-to-night fluctuations.
High Rating Factor (RF):
The standard model has an RF of up to 4.0 at 30°C, making it more capable of operating in hot and humid coastal areas and in outdoor cabinets with high temperature rises.
Billing Class Accuracy:
Metering Class 0.3 (IEEE C57.13), with B-0.1/B-0.2/B-0.5 load options available; secondary side with built-in shorting device and sealable terminal cover to reduce operation and maintenance and anti-theft risks. Fully compliant with US standards
Wide adaptability:
100:5A–800:5A multiple transformation ratios, three through-hole diameters of 38/66/78 mm, suitable for installations ranging from single cable to multiple parallel busbars.
Authoritative type test endorsement:
ILAC-accredited member laboratories complete type testing, and the entire machine meets strict standards and customer requirements.
Testing Unit: Suzhou Electric Science Research Institute Co., Ltd. (EETI).
Test Category:
Routine Test + Type Test; In accordance with IEEE C57.13-2016;
Test Dates:
June 4, 2025 to June 9, 2025. Conclusion: The sample meets the inspection basis and commission requirements. (Note: This conclusion applies only to the sample submitted for inspection.)
Accuracy and Load:
At 2.5, 5.0, and 12.5 VA (cosφ 0.9), the sample maintained a 0.15-second accuracy level at 10%/100%/300% In, with both ratio and phase differences within the specified limits (60 Hz). This demonstrates that even under the more stringent 0.15-second accuracy requirement, the product consistently meets the standard, providing cleaner current data input for billing.
Temperature Rise and Thermal Stability:
With a continuous thermal current of 3 × In (1800 A) applied and the secondary short-circuited, the winding temperature rose by 33.3°C, with the hottest points at 53.4/53.6°C, both below the 55/90°C limits. This indicates good thermal margin even in high-temperature cabinets and coastal environments.
Short-time withstand current:
31.5 kA/1 s (peak: 76.85 kA), I²t = 1.058 × 10⁶ A²s. Insulation and accuracy retests after the short-time impulse both passed. Its structure and insulation strength withstood abnormal operating conditions such as distribution network short circuits.
Secondary withstand voltage/insulation:
Pass 2.5 kV/60 s from secondary to ground; insulation resistance ≥132–136 GΩ. Provides robust safety redundancy for outdoor and high-humidity environments.
Tip:
This series of standards is externally designated as metrology grade 0.3. The sample performance reported above, measured at 0.15S, provides a higher precision engineering margin for projects. The test report is valid only for the sample submitted for inspection; mass production is subject to the order specifications.
Ecuador project implementation:
three typical scenarios and benefits
Residential/commercial AMI retrofit (60 Hz, large load fluctuations)
Appeal:
No missed metering under low load, no saturation at peak, and traceable anti-electricity theft.
Solution:
RECT’s 1%–150% In accuracy coverage + shorting device/sealable terminals → more reliable data and more efficient auditing.
Special transformer/low-voltage metering cabinet for key large customers (long secondary circuit, high temperature inside the cabinet)
Appeal:
High RF, B-0.5 load, low temperature rise, and reduced renovation and power outage times.
Solution:
Select RF=4.0 specification and use the included Excel secondary line loss calculation sheet and VA quick lookup table to control “meter VA + conductor VA + accessory VA” within the Bx capacity to ensure billing-level accuracy.

Coastal heat and humidity/outdoor cabinets (salt spray, humidity, temperature rise)
Appeal:
safe insulation and voltage resistance, short-term impact resistance, and sufficient thermal margin.
Solution:
Based on the report’s data, including secondary withstand voltage of 2.5 kV/60 s, short-time 31.5 kA/1 s, and temperature rise of 33.3°C, this report provides reliable selection and review materials for outdoor and abnormal operating conditions.

What is it about HEYI’s CT that attracts the power bureau?
1.Wide range measurement:
1%–150% In, accurate at night, and more stable during the day.
2.Higher precision and redundancy:
The prototype met the performance standards within 0.15s, safeguarding billing data.
3.Easier engineering:
RF=4.0, B-0.5 options, secondary shorting, and sealable terminals allow for both capacity expansion and power theft prevention.
4.Safety assured:
2.5 kV secondary withstand voltage, 31.5 kA/1s short-time withstand voltage, and 33.3°C temperature rise.”
