What is a Current Transformer?
The current transformers is an instrument that converts the primary side large current into the secondary side small current for measurement based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. The current transformer is compose of a closed iron core and a winding.
Its primary side winding has few turns and is connect in series in the circuit of the current to be measure. Therefore, it often has the entire current of the line flowing through it. The secondary side winding has more turns and is connect in series in the measuring instrument and the protection circuit.
When the current transformers is working, its secondary side circuit is always close, so the impedance of the series coil of the measuring instrument and the protection circuit is very small, and the working state of the current transformer is close to short circuit. The current transformers converts the primary side large current into the secondary side small current for measurement, and the secondary side cannot be open.
