FAQ
1. How do I select the right SCT split-core current transformer?
Select an SCT current transformer based on your rated current, cable or busbar dimensions, required output signal, and measurement accuracy. Check both the window dimensions and the available installation space. Share your meter specifications and installation requirements with HEYI so we can recommend a suitable model.
2. What is the difference between 333mV and mA output versions?
The 333mV version provides an AC voltage signal through an internal burden resistor, while the mA version provides an AC current signal that requires a compatible receiving circuit. Choose the output that matches your meter’s input specifications. These versions should not be interchanged without checking the meter’s input requirements and scaling settings.
3. Can SCT split-core current transformers be installed without disconnecting existing cables?
Yes. The split-core design allows the transformer to be fitted around an existing conductor without disconnecting it, making it suitable for retrofit monitoring projects. Follow the specified polarity direction and ensure the core closes completely. Installation must follow the site’s electrical safety procedures; the split-core design does not itself authorize live installation.
4. What accuracy can SCT split-core current transformers provide?
The SCT product tables list Class 0.5 and Class 1.0 options, depending on the selected configuration. Accuracy must be confirmed for the specific current ratio, output, operating current range, and connected burden. For power and energy measurement, phase-angle error should also be considered. Request the model-specific datasheet and test conditions before ordering.
5. Can the lead wires of an SCT split-core current transformer be extended?
Lead-wire extension should be evaluated for the selected output type and installation conditions. Additional cable resistance can affect the burden of mA output versions, while 333mV versions require attention to meter input impedance and signal interference. Provide the required total cable length, wire size, and meter input specifications so HEYI can assess a suitable arrangement.
